About this issue

The sixteen engraved stamps (fifteen landscapes and a 5 K Franz Joseph portrait) issued on 1 November 1906 were designed by Koloman Moser and engraved by Ferdinand Schirnböck. They were the first engraved stamps from the Vienna State Printing Office; a set devoted to scenery rather than a ruler or coat of arms was still a rarity at the time. The side borders follow local embroidery patterns.

About this issue

The four newspaper stamps of 1913 show a girl in Bosnian folk costume. They paid the postage on newspapers and, like most newspaper stamps of the time, were imperforate – usually cut apart at the post-office counter. They were valid until 28 October 1918, but after the war they turned up with various overprints as ordinary stamps in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
