About this issue

Serbia was overrun by the Central Powers at the end of 1915; the Austro-Hungarian part was run from 1 January 1916 by the Military General Governorate of Serbia, based in Belgrade. In 1916 – the only year stamps were issued for Serbia – the Franz Joseph field-post stamps were overprinted 'SERBIEN' diagonally. Most mail, however, kept going with ordinary K u K FELDPOST stamps.

Sources differ on which set carried the diagonal and which the horizontal 'SERBIEN' overprint – the field-post stamps or the Bosnian stamps of 1912.
