1873 Telegraph Stamps - Inscription "MAGYAR KIR TAVIRDA"

Hungary's telegraph stamps, inscribed MAGYAR KIR TAVIRDA (Royal Hungarian Telegraph), were meant to be printed from engraved copper plates, but when it became clear these would not be ready in time a temporary lithographed issue was allowed. It was in use from 1 August 1873 for about a year, until engraved stamps of exactly the same designs and values replaced it. The lithographs are all perforated 9½ and on the same thick paper as the postage stamps; the 2 forint is on coloured paper so that it would not be confused with the black 1 forint. Telegraph stamps went out of use on 28 February 1879.
