1868–1872 Numeral Stamps - Inscription "MAGY KIR HIRLAP BÉLYEG"
About this issue
The newspaper tax stamps inscribed MAGY. KIR. HIRLAP BÉLYEG did not pay postage but the tax on newspapers – they are not to be confused with the postal newspaper stamps. Hungary issued them in June 1868; they were still printed in Vienna and the paper's watermark had a German inscription, but the stamp itself already carries Hungarian text. For the Military Frontier a version was issued with the Hungarian arms at the bottom.
